Perhaps the only guy on earth to get away with calling Patrick Swayze "a lady," New York City playwright and scriptwriter of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, Douglas Carter Beane once praised Swayze for bringing a "sweet, maternal" quality to his drag-queen role in the 1995 film. Fans of I>To Wong Foo$> should flock to Actors Comedy Lab and Raleigh Ensemble Players' upcoming production of Beane's As Bees In Honey Drown (pictured). Running July 13 through July 29 at Thompson Studio Theatre at N.C. State, the play tells the story of a hot young writer and a mysterious and intriguing woman who is far too wonderful to have been born that way. Tickets are $10 and $15.
