The "Making a Living" tour is the brainchild of 27-year-old Brooklyn-based Andy Friedman (pictured), an artist and New Yorker contributor who started City Salvage Records to put out record albums for visual artists. Friedman's debut book, Drawings and Other Failures, is a collection of Polaroids, delicate pencil drawings and poetry that share an earthy sensibility. City Salvage also functions as a regular label, recently releasing From Long Gones to Hawkmoth, the debut disc of 26-year-old country blues singer-songwriter Paul Curreri. The duo has joined forces to promote their respective works in a tour of coffeehouses, bookstores and performance spaces nationwide. Curreri performs his rootsy, Piedmont and Delta-blues influenced guitar songs; Friedman introduces and discusses his work, which is projected onto a screen above the stage. The tour hits the Regulator Bookshop in Durham this Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. Call 286-2700 for details. --Angie Carlson
