In local flowz

The Xtra Infinit hip-hop crew has done a lot of growing up in the last couple of years, seeing their ranks multiply and cross-pollinate MCs and DJs around the region, and building the local music community in the process. Their showcase Liquid Flowz started as a way for local hip-hoppers to interact with a sense of healthy competition, alongside many others run by similar collectives around the area. Take, for example, the Microphone Mondays competitions at Local 506 in Chapel Hill: large crowds, large purse ($506 for the last contest) and large talent. The artists involved with all of these organizations, many represented at this anniversary event, are benefiting from the communal efforts. Co-hosted by Uneek and Little Brother producer and DJ 9th Wonder (who recently worked with mega-platinum artist Jay Z), this night promises a full lineup of local hip-hop folks like Kaze, doing an unplugged set with group The Motives, K Hill (originally from Wilson, N.C.), and Xtra Infinit's own Beyond, who has a 9th Wonder-produced 12-inch coming out soon. Check this out for a real taste of Carolina hip hop. 9:30 p.m., 18 and over. $6 advance, $8 day of show. For more info, 967-9053, or
