The other dance shoe droppeth: as we mentioned last week, this is the week in which six modern dance companies in the area give five different concerts between Thursday and Sunday. In this five-car pile up of dance, Meredith Dance Company's concert, at Jones Auditorium Thursday through Saturday nights, features "Prey," which Bessie Award-winner Bebe Miller set on the group in October. Those same nights, Peace College's company plays host to Chrissy Pressley, Five Chick Posse, and N.C. State's Dance Visions. Friday night, the rest of N.C. State's dance program features sections from Songs, a Robin Harris work-in-progress, and Megan Marvel's dance film, The Water Line (pictured below), in Stewart Theater. Duke's November Dances run on the same schedule at Reynolds Theater, including work from residencies with griot Djimo Kouyate and Haitian dancers John and Mona Amira. Finally, Even Exchange reprises Bluestocking, their current literary tribute, Saturday and Sunday at BTI's Kennedy Theater.

And if you plan catching more than one of these, keep your ticket stub. It's good for 50 percent off all the other dance performances this weekend (except for 25 percent, at Even Exchange). --Byron Woods
