Durham-based label Pox World Empire is releasing an impressive Triangle rock compilation, in its first volume, matching 21 groups whose only common denominator is their presence in this area's musical landscape. At the least, Compulation is a snapshot of a time and place in our region's musical history, and with killer cover art by artist Casey Burns, everyone involved can only hope it will be recalled as fondly someday as say, local comps like Falling Off the Planet or Cognitive Mapping. For now, the sampling of bands for this release party span the entire breadth of that ever-shifting continuum, with the feverish pop of the Rosebuds, the Sames' leftfield melodies, the guttural power duo Des Ark, North Elementary's hazy song cycle, and the Cold Sides' electro-rhythm machine. Word is there may be some member-swapping between bands during the night, just for kicks. This event is also co-sponsored by WXYC and WXDU. Call 967-9053 for more information. $10-$20.
