Dave Eggers will be reading from his autobiographical work, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (pictured), at the Armory in downtown Durham April 18 at 7 p.m. The memoir of a college senior who loses both of his parents to cancer in a five-week span and must take care of his 8-year-old brother, it is at once amusing and inventive, and a heartfelt story of the love between brothers. Genius was named one of the best books of the year in 2000 by the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today and Time magazine. The Regulator Bookshop is hosting Eggers, and will donate a portion of sales to Triangle Hospice. Eggers will also be contributing a portion of his royalties, and people can donate at the door.
