In bluegrass

During the 1970s, Thursday nights at the old Cat's Cradle were held down by The Bluegrass Experience. Many bluegrass bands have achieved greater fame, but few have turned as many folks on to bluegrass music or become so closely associated with a specific time and place. Flash forward to Sunday, June 2, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., when PineCone presents a free concert by The Bluegrass Experience. While the Beane Brothers have gone to the great jam session in the sky, stalwarts Tommy Edwards, Snuffy Smith and Keith Thomas have carried on, last year recording Experience This!, their first album in a couple of decades. The record features six of Edwards' original songs, while the concert at Holding Park in Wake Forest (corner of College and Owen) will showcase selections from his forthcoming solo project. Call (919) 990-1900 or visit for details. --Art Menius
