Singer-songwriter Kyler (pictured) recounted her personal feelings about her mother's battle with cancer in her second album, If the World Would Just End. Now, she celebrates the release of a new six-track CD, How Many Angels? with a special benefit concert Saturday, Aug. 18, at Reynolds Theater, Duke University, Durham. How Many Angels? is dedicated to her mother, who died in October 1999. A portion of the proceeds from the concert and the sale of the CD go to Triangle Hospice. The CD begins, fittingly enough, with "Hope." Despite her loss, hope is a constant, and that's the reason for Saturday's benefit: It's a way of giving back. "I have found great solace and healing in these songs, and I feel that others who have had similar experiences can as well," she says. Originally from the Triangle, Kyler moved to Boston to develop her music career and is now based in New York City. If the World Would Just End was released last year and places her along the cutting edge of contemporary women singer-songwriters. Taylor Roberts opens the concert at 8 p.m., with Kyler and her band scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Triangle Hospice at www.trianglehospice.org or Kyler at www.kylerengland.com. --Chuck Waters
