The Raleigh Civic Symphony and Chamber Orchestra starts two Sundays devoted to eastern music with its Voices of Asia and the Pacific series at Stewart Theater. On Sunday, April 18, the symphony presents orchestral music from China and Japan including performances by Japanese drum ensemble Triangle Taiko and Jennifer Chang Warbington on GuZeng (Chinese zither). Works include composer Bright Sheng's Three Gorges of the Great River from China Dreams. On Sunday, April 25, the symphony will be joined by UNC-Chapel Hill's Gamelan Nyai Saraswati for several cycles of javanese compositions. Other works include Toshiro Mayuzumi's Pieces for Prepared Piano and Strings, and ZhanHao He's The Tragic Hero: General Yue Fei, for GuZheng and orchestra. Tickets are $8, students $5.
