Gibson Brothers

When: Fri., March 1, 8 p.m. 2013

Emerging from the mid-'90s newgrass movement, Leigh and Eric Gibson have moved closer to mainstream bluegrass. But where some acts bend bluegrass toward modern sensibilities, the Gibson Brothers adapt modern concerns to old-fashioned music, using it as a platform for a wry take on dinosaurs ("Frozen in Time") or to country up Gordon Lightfoot's traveling ode, "Long Way Back Home." The brotherly harmonies are delightful, and the more you listen, the more you'll catch their subversive wit. They've been on a hot streak, with five consecutive albums topping the bluegrass charts —Chris Parker
