When: Thu., Nov. 29, 8 p.m. 2012

Last week in The New York Times, some Princeton fancy pants penned an editorial against "irony"—as if young people putting a distance between themselves and everything else is a new phenomenon, or that hedged self-consciousness is inherently bad. Consider fun., cannily self-aware and manically sincere, best known for the country-fried Queen song "Some Nights" and for "We Are Young," a Peter Gabriel meets Grizzly Bear gone Semisonic sing-along with hooks that encourage the listener to "set the world on fire." Their deadpan name communicates, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know this stuff isn't cool but we're going for it anyway, so drop the too-cool act and join us." Arena rock grandiosity paired with indie pop existentialism, and shouted hooks ready for senior yearbook quotes, make it tough to scoff at their cathartic, nothing-but-positive, pomp-and-circumstance pop. The 8 p.m. show is sold out, so you may need to seek alternative ticket outlets. —Brandon Soderberg
