Fright Night and The Beyond

When: Fri., Feb. 8, 7 p.m. 2013

"Oh you're so cool, Brewster!" It's a last-minute 1980s horror double-feature to benefit the Nevermore Film Festival. First is 1985's Fright Night, another case in which you should ignore the sequel, the remake and the remake's upcoming sequel, which is just a straight-to-DVD remake of a remake. It's about a horror-movie-loving teen who finds out his new neighbor (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire. She recruits a dubiously qualified TV host (Roddy McDowell) to help him take the bloodsucker down. It's paired with a rare print of Lucio Fulci's The Beyond, a surreal horror epic about a hotel you really don't want to stay in. Difficult to find in the '80s, it has received a series of rereleases from Grindhouse Films, allowing viewers to experience all of its eye-gouging glory. Pay $10 for both films at 7 p.m. —Zack Smith
