Form Special

When: June 15-Oct. 8 2012

Chicago artist Andy Hall has a show of newly commissioned work, Form Special: Solar Projects and Site Collages, that harnesses the sun's energy, including a neon TGIF sign that stores solar power throughout the week before announcing its message at noon on the appropriate day. A School of the Art Institute of Chicago faculty member, Hall brings a minimalist sensibility to media such as furniture and folded and perforated metal and paper. DJ Travis Fish enlivens Friday's opening reception from 6–9 p.m., including a Raleigh Wine Shop tasting at 7:30. On Saturday, join Hall for an artist's talk and exhibition tour at 3 p.m., or take advantage of Sunday's family-friendly 2 p.m. tour and fun art activities. The show runs through Oct. 8 in the Independent Weekly Gallery. —Chris Vitiello
