Bull Durham Blues Festival

When: Sept. 7-8, 6 p.m.-12 a.m. 2012

There's a lot of history here: Not only does this year's Bull Durham Blues Festival mark the quarter-century anniversary of the event, it's also being held at one of the city's most storied outdoor venues, Durham Athletic Park (where the Bulls played before moving downtown to the DBAP). As always, the fest has attracted quality headliners: Texas/ Louisiana genre-bender Marcia Ball tops Friday's bill, followed by a Saturday lineup that includes not only Memphis legend Bobby Blue Bland but also Chicago soul shouter Otis Clay. There's also local representation, including Justin Johnson, Th' Bullfrog Willard McGhee and E Train & the Rusted Rails. Tickets each night are $35 in advance, $45 day of the event; gates open at 5 p.m. and the music runs from 6 p.m. to midnight. —Peter Blackstock

Price: $35-45
