1. Most important issues facing North Carolina and the nation (other
than terrorist attacks) are Unemployment and Illegal Aliens. To correct
Unemployment, we must reduce the tax and regulation burdens currently on
business. Also, matters such as government mandated "Cap and Trade" and
"Government Run Health Care" need to be done away with so as to assure
business that there will be no "surprises" tomorrow. That's why businesses
are not hiring today . . . they fear what this current government will do to
them tomorrow. The illegal alien issue is currentlyripe for resolution.
Due to our failed economy, the illegal aliens are headed back to their
homelands in massive numbers. So, now's the time to close our borders, by
fences and otherwise, to ensure the illegals can't return when we get our
economy back on track. At that time, our legal citizens can perform the jobs
formerly held by the illegals.
2. I have no prior service in elected office, but I am active in a
variety of community service functions. I see no connection between
charitable/community service and performance in elected office. The former
is done for humanitarian reasons and the latter is a job.
3. My philosophy has been Conservative for my entire life. That means
living totally debt-free, independent of government or any other assistance,
and believing that everyone else should enjoy the same opportunities as I
and the same freedom to excel.
4. I will always take a stand against the killing of a baby in the name
of "pro-choice" or "incest" or "rape." If it is undeniably proven by medical
doctors that the life of the mother and/or baby will be lost due to the
pregnancy, then I would leave it to the mother to decide what to do.
Otherwise, adoption should be the route taken.
5.a. What we learned in both Korea and Vietnam should have been our guiding
force in Iraq and Afghanistan. If our current elected officials in Washington knew
anything about the history of warfare, Iraq and Afghanistan would be distant
memories. Those of us who have actually fought in wars since World War II
recognize the folly of our elected officials; especiallyfrom the early 1960s to
date. These naive people need to be replaced. Anyway, that's water under the
bridge. Since we haven't firmly brought these matters to an end, we must remain
in the Middle East for some years to come so as to contain those that would
prefer to come to our shores to kill innocents.
5.b. See 5.a. The terrorists must be confined there and not allowed to
reach our shores.
5.c. We have the best health care in the world. Unfortunately, our federal
government's interference has made it the most expensive. Inept government
intervention has resulted in high costs for low services. The government has
no place in health care and needs to get out of it once and for all. We need to
have the ability to purchase health insurance across state lines, just as we do
auto insurance. The legal system needs to be modified. Actual damage awards
should still be fully covered, but punitive damages need to be capped.
5.d. The primary source of our economic problems was originally Congress.
Now, it is Congress and the current Administration. Only a fool thinks he
can spend his way out of debt. The longer they continue this foolishness,
the more difficult it will be to undo their debacle. Due to their naive approach,
there is insufficient income because of high unemployment and high taxes.
It's apparent they want us to fail and they are doing all they can toward that
end.The federal government needs to step aside and allow the private
sector to do what it has always done so well; grow and prosper.
5.e. The stimulus and bailouts were abject failures. No business is "too
large to fail" and that mantra was really just an excuse for a "slush fund"
for the Democrat's cronies. Most of the stimulus and bailout money has not
been spent. It's all just sitting there waiting to buy votes needed for the
next scheme. The only job growth has been in government. These plans
never should have been implemented in a free, capitalist country andI
would never, ever, vote in favor of them, then or now.
5.f. Education is the business of local communities. Therefore, all
questions regarding public education need to be addressedto the local
school board members. I am running for the office of U.S. Senator. If I
attain that office I will be in the front-line of those who vote to abolish
the federal Department of Education. Total control of education needs to be
returned to the states. The federal government is too incompetent for
something as important as education.
6. Missing from the questionnaire (skipped).
7. Totally support capital punishment.
8. As a military veteran, at the very least "Don't Ask Don't Tell" must be retained.
9. I only support abortion in those cases where two or more licensed
medical doctors have verified that the life of the woman and/or the baby is
in imminent peril specifically because ofher pregnancy. At that point,
killingher baby will be the final decision of the mother.
10. Regarding Social Security and Medicare, everyone who works is forced to
pay into the program (i.e., it's a work tax). In the case of the military,
it's something owed to those who have defended our country. So, we have an
obligation to do all we can to uphold the promises made for these programs.
Right now $2.5 TRILLION is owed to Social security by the Federal
Government. If thecareer politicians had kept their hands off it, Social
Security and Medicare would be solvent. This needs to be turned around in
order to fulfill the promises made to those who were forced to pay these taxes
just to work. Medicaid? It's broke and Doctors refuse to participate. More and
more are beginning to refuse Medicare, too, because the reimbursement rate
continues to drop. This is just a preview at what the future holds in store after
the "Obamacare" vote!
11. Congress (Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, et al) caused the banking collapse with their inane lending legislation. Now, Dodd is the Chair of the committee to fix the problems.
The fox has been allowed into the chicken coop. We need competent people working
on such matters, not career politicians who have never held a job or run a company.
12. The Obama Administration has rapidly lived down to the level where everythinking American knew it would.
