Bill T. Jones: A Good Man

When: Thu., June 7, 7 p.m. 2012

They're tuning up the spray-painted bus and double-stocking the Whole Foods salad bar—yes, it's American Dance Festival time in Durham again. The Durham County Library celebrates ADF with a screening of excerpts from Bill T. Jones: A Good Man, a documentary that follows one of the festival's most cherished artists as he creates his most ambitious work to date. Part of the PBS American Masters series, the film chronicles the creation of Jones' provocative performance Fondly Do We Hope ... Fervently Do We Pray, which delves into issues of race, ethics and citizenship while commemorating Abraham Lincoln's bicentennial birthday. The 7 p.m. screening is free. —Chris Vitiello
