A surprising pick for playing, no?

Ben Folds Five—Darren Jessee, Robert Sledge and Ben Folds—will play Thursday, Sept. 18, at UNC-Chapel Hill's Memorial Hall, according to sources close to the show's presenters, Myspace Music. The trio—which disbanded in 2000 shortly after touring behind its fourth full-length, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner—will play that final album in its entirety.

This is the band's first public performance in nearly a decade. Tickets go on sale Monday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. through etix.com. Folds hinted at the show on Aug. 28 on British fan site The Suburbs: "We've been planning something for Chapel Hill on Sept. 18th that I'm told we have to wait a few more days to announce. There will be those who shit. I know I will. Very excited but I gotta hold it in a few more days."

Folds' new solo record, Way To Normal, will be released by Epic Records only two days before the show. Meanwhile, Firecracker People, the latest from Jesse's post-Five band Hotel Lights, was released Aug. 18 by Bar/None.
