Avenue Q

When: Aug. 15-19 2012

There is more terrifying truth in this show about puppets than in virtually any other musical of the last two decades. I might be speaking from an overly personal place, but doubtless there are those who will find songs such as "What Do You Do With a B.A. in English?" and "I Wish I Could Go Back to College" equally painful in their resonance. It is perhaps unsurprising that this satire of Henson Muppets and the malaise of young adulthood has not only become one of the longest-running hits ever on Broadway, but that its co-creator Robert Lopez went on to co-write the more recent hit The Book of Mormon. The Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy production runs Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 19, at 8 p.m., with a 3 p.m. matinee on Aug. 19. Tickets are $24–$35. By the way, did you know you can make your own custom Muppets at FAO Schwarz, or just order them from their website? I got one last fall. I call him "Gerald." —Zack Smith
