Dumb questions: Do you like beer? Do you want to help out a worthy cause? Don't know which to choose? The 8th Annual World Beer Festival won't make you--it's the largest celebration of national and international craft beers in the South, with 100 different breweries and 300 distinct beers for you to sample, and it's a benefit event, to boot. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Carolina Theatre, the last of Durham's 13 original theaters. There's beer from microbreweries, and there's beer from European legends, and there's beer from the Pacific Rim. And once you pay your admission, you get unlimited samples of all these different beers. They've also got merchandise booths, "a cigar-friendly garden," children's entertainment, food from some of the area's best restaurants, and even non-alcoholic beverages. Afterward, you can flaunt your newly-acquired "beer connoisseur" status in front of your friends. Just try not to get too plastered while you're at it.
