A Little Night Music

When: Feb. 12-17 2013

Stephen Sondheim's classic musical adaptation of Bergman's Smiles of a Summer Night gets the local treatment in this Meredith College production. It's one of Sondheim's most bittersweet musicals, not least for the well-known "Send in the Clowns" but also for such acid-tinged numbers as "You Must Meet My Wife," "Liaisons" and "It Would Have Been Wonderful," which deal with the disappointments and possibilities of failed relationships. The play has attracted top talent over the years (a recent Broadway production featured Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones). Performances are at 8 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday, Feb. 12–17, with an additional 3 p.m. matinee on Feb. 16. —Zack Smith
