92nd Street Y Live

When: Mon., Nov. 26, 8 p.m. 2012

Advancements in digital and other technology mean that potentially fascinating group discussions are no longer limited to the largest cities. Now, residents of the Triangle can not only experience these live events, but also directly participate in them. We speak of the Carolina Theatre's showings of 92nd Street Y talks, where smart people talk to other smart people, and things happen.

According to Carolina Theatre CEO Bob Nocek, the theater picks six talks from each announced season and has received funding from the Durham Arts Council to help offset costs. Nocek says initial response has been "bigger than we expected" and that staff takes questions from attendees—with at least one question from Durham used in the broadcasts so far. This time around, novelist and Pulitzer-winning journalist Anna Quindlen talks with Jodi Kantor, acclaimed author of The Obamas. Tickets for the 8 p.m. event are $12, $10 for members and groups of 10 or more, and $5 for students. —Zack Smith

Price: $5-12
